Summary of Benefits for Public Safety
Police Department – Sworn Personnel Only:
  • Minimum 40 hour work week
  • 3 Personal Days
  • 15 Sick Leave Days per year with unlimited accumulation
  • Annual Leave accumulation:
26 days accumulation for 1-4 years of service
28 days accumulation for 5-9 years of service
30 days accumulation for 10-14 years of service
32 days accumulation for 15-19 years of service
33 days accumulation for 20-24 years of service
34 days accumulation for 25-29 years of service
35 days accumulation for 30 or more years of service
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program – up to 80% reimbursement of tuition costs (including text books), a maximum of $2,500 per fiscal year for first 15 employees; thereafter, 70% reimbursement of direct tuition costs, up to a maximum of $1,500 per fiscal year (thru Sergeant only)

Fire Department – Sworn Personnel Only:
  • 15 Sick Leave Days per year with unlimited accumulation
  • Annual Leave accumulation:
17 days accumulation for 1-2 years of service
20 days accumulation for 3-9 years of service
26 days accumulation for 10-14 years of service
29 days accumulation for 15-19 years of service
36 days accumulation for 20-24 years of service
39 days accumulation for 25-29 years of service
40 days accumulation for 30 or more years of service
  • Tuition Reimbursement Program – up to 70% of direct tuition costs, up to a maximum of $1,500 per fiscal year
  • Additional longevity pay – Step 11 for individuals achieving 17 consecutive years of service

Police and Fire Personnel:

  • Longevity pay – 1 step increase as each of the following milestones are reached during continuous employment:  7, 12 and 15
  •  Medical, Dental, Vision, Prescription and Flexible Spending Accounts (Medical and Dependent Care) offered to employee and eligible dependents.  Cost is according to coverage level selected.  City pays 85% & Employee pays 15%.
  • Short Term Disability – 100% of premium paid by company
  • Core Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance ($20,000 each) – 100% of premium paid by company 
  • Employee Assistance Program (Lifework Strategies) – 6 free confidential visits with a counselor for the employees and their dependents (spouse/children)
  • Public Safety/Police & Fire Pension Plan – New Revised Plan – 20 year plan; 3.5% contribution by employee; fully vested after 10 years of employment.  This is a Defined Benefit Plan based on Salary and Years of Service
  • Voluntary Long Term Disability
  • Voluntary Prepaid Legal Benefit Plan (Nationwide coverage)
  • Voluntary Supplemental Life Insurance for employee, spouse and dependent children
  • Choice of three 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plans
  • State Employees Credit Union
  • United Buying Service (UBS) discounted furniture and new/used car buying service
