Christmas Tree Disposal

The City will gladly collect your tree or natural wreath or garlands. Simply place it at the curb the night before your Yard Trimmings pickup day. To locate your Yard Trimmings Schedule, click Street Listing, go to your street and click on the route number. Natural trees or greens will be shredded by our Yard Trimmings Division to be used in the City's gardens. Please remove tree stand, tree bags, metal ornament hangers, wire and all decorations.  Cut trees over four feet in half so that the tree will fit into the contractor's truck.

There are lots of easy ways for residents to get involved in recycling this Christmas. Whether it is by recycling your old Christmas tree or stuffing your blue bin full of recyclables, your efforts are greatly appreciated.  From the Public Works Team, we hope you have a green and enjoyable Christmas season.

  1. Place your real Christmas tree out for yard waste collection (if taller than 4 ft., please cut in half).
  2. Recycle all wrapping papers (paper or foil), Christmas cards, wrapping tissue and bows.
  3. Recycle cookie tins.
  4. Buy rechargeable batteries and recycle old ones (drop off used household batteries at Public Works Administration, 145 Gorman Street, 2nd floor).
  5. When hosting house parties, why not set up a recycling bin next to your refuse container. You’d be surprised how quickly this catches on and gets your guests recycling.
  6. If you receive new electronic items for Christmas that replace others, take the old ones to our E-cycling center.
  7. Take good quality old toys, clothes, small electrical items, etc., to your local charity shop.
