The Annapolis Department of Transportation (ADOT) provides bus transit services through the Circulator route, regular fixed route services and specialized transportation services, covering areas from Bay Forest Plaza in the east and Gateway Village and Annapolis Mall in the west. The specialized transportation services provide curb-to-curb services for persons with disabilities and senior customers.
The department also licenses, inspects and regulates taxicabs; plans and executes special transportation services for City-sponsored events; regulates on-street and off-street parking operations; serves as the agent and station operator for Greyhound/Trailways; and participates on the regional, state and federal level to develop plans and programs to improve local and regional transportation.
In early 2009, two more functions were added to the department. Transportation planning functions were transferred from the Department of Planning and Zoning to ADOT. With a new emphasis on issues related to alternative transportation, bicycle initiatives and parking enforcement, the City created a staff position of personal transportation and parking specialist in the department to promote and implement these programs citywide. With these additions, ADOT now has three (3) main divisions and one (1) specialized function. The divisions are bus transit operations, personal transportation and parking, and transportation planning. The specialized function is transportation inspection.
Transit operations consist of local and regional bus services. Local bus transit services are provided by Annapolis Transit while Greyhound/Trailways provides regional bus service with connections to Washington, D.C., Baltimore and beyond.
Mission and Vision
The mission of the department is two fold: provide, support and promote a customer-focused, safe, reliable, efficient and attractive public and personal transportation services; and provide a comprehensive transportation planning and analysis for both motorized and non-motorized transportation modes consistent with the City’s land use policies.
It is the vision of ADOT to be the best small transit agency in the State of Maryland.
