News and highlights from the City of Annapolis. On this edition: an update on speed enforcement cameras in school zones; parking information for the boat show; a new emergency preparedness program in the City; and a look at three new businesses in Annapolis.


Annapolis residents are encouraged to come to City Council meetings

The newly reopened Market House has vendors offering everything from crab cakes to burgers to fresh sandwiches and raw oysters.  Or try the shaved ice or gelato or fruit-filled sweet rice for dessert!  If you're thirsty, you'll enjoy milk shakes or fruit smoothies or sodas and tea. Come take a look and enjoy it! Open 7 days.


Are you a business in Annapolis wishing to recycle? We offer commercial recycling at a very affordable price.


The updated Refuse Collection Schedules are available online.Please note that new furlough days were added to 2011 which reduce collection services.


Stanton Community Center

The Stanton Community Center (SCC) recently received 12 new computers. Plans are underway to offer basic computer instructions for residents of the City. The classes will be conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. City residents can take advantage of using the computer laboratory free of charge. Volunteers are needed in the computer lab.

Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Annapolis has a variety of Boards and Commissions that advise the Administration and the City Council on a variety of topics.If you would like to volunteer, visit our Boards and Commissions page. You can click on any of the individual boards to learn more about the duties of the board and the requirements to serve. Most, but not all, Boards and Commissions require you to live in city limits and some require that you live in a specific ward.

Fall 2011 GreenScape will be held Saturday, October 22nd -- plan to join us that day! If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail Marisa Wittlinger at mdwittlinger@annapolis.gov. For those that ordered bulbs, they will be ready for pick-up Monday through Friday, October 17-21 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at PMRC.


Special event parking prices will go into effect for the United State Yacht Shows at both the Noah Hillman Garage and Gotts Court Garages. The show dates are:

  • Sailboat Show: 6 - 10 October
  • Powerboat Show: 13-16 October

During these dates, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., parking at Hillman Garage will be $20 per day and at Gotts Garage $15 per day.

City residents can continue to utilize the garages for 2 hours free of charge with their resident parking decals. Existing monthly permit holders to the garages will not be affected by the special event parking rates.


Two new businesses opened in Annapolis last week, including a Veteran’s facility and a convenience store & gas station.

The Annapolis Vet Center, located at 100 Annapolis Street - Suite 102 opened its doors on Friday September 23 and will provide counseling and referral services to facilitate successful readjustment to civilian life.

A 7-Eleven convenience store & gas station, Located at 111 West Street, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 22. The store is open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily and employees 15 individuals.
