  • COMPOSITION:
    Fifteen residents who have demonstrated an interest in and have acquired experience in matters relating to human relations concerns. Term - three years. Appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Aldermen.
  • DUTIES:
    To accept complaints relating to discrimination, to survey practices and conditions in the areas of public accommodation, employment, housing, recreation, employment, and education. To make recommendations concerning legislation, to advise and counsel business entities, and to mediate disagreements.
    • Types of Discrimination
      The Commission can accept complaints of discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, genetic information, religion, national origin, age, marital status, familial status, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, and (in housing complaints) source of income.
    • Filing a Complaint
      Contact the Commission staff liaison at 410-263-7998 or HRCommission@annapolis.gov. To register a complaint, a form must be completed and returned. This form is available at the ‘statement of complaint’ link on this page.
    • Preventing a Complaint
      If you are interested in learning more about ways you can help prevent discrimination, please contact the Commission staff liaison.
    • Speakers
      Commission members are available to make presentations about its work to community, civic, neighborhood, business, nonprofit, religious and other organizations in Annapolis. Likewise, the Commission is eager to schedule talks at its meetings by representatives of groups involved in activities relating to human relations. Please contact the Commission staff liaison.
