Two-Hour Free Parking Available in Market Space During Geothermal Well Construction

Annapolis, MD (1-26-12) In an effort to support businesses located along Market Space during construction, Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announced that all 17 parking meters will offer two hours of free parking.

Delivery parking in Market Space must be made available Monday though Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Bagged meters on both sides of the plaza indicate that the free two-hour parking is offered after 11:00 a.m.

A large variable message sign announces that businesses are open during construction with additional signage being placed along the fenced area Friday.  One lane of traffic remains open in Market Space during construction and all sidewalks are open so pedestrian traffic is not affected.

All parents of students attending St. Mary’s Elementary and High schools were notified of the construction and asked that Market Space not be used as a pick up and drop off point. The Mayor extends his gratitude to the parents for finding alternative locations.

The installation of the 20 geothermal wells in Market Space will be conducted in three phases. The geothermal well installation began Monday, January 23 and construction is expected to last about six to eight weeks. Questions should be directed to Department of Public Works at 410-263-7949.
