SNOW REMOVAL QUESTIONS - Department of Public Works crews are working around the clock to clear the City’s 87 miles of road. The Emergency Snow Routes and most of the Snow Connector Routes are passable as of Sunday, and crews are beginning to turn their attention to residential streets. City officials ask for your continued patience and cooperation as they work toward completing the removal process. IT IS EXPECTED TO TAKE AT LEAST FIVE DAYS TO MAKE ALL CITY ROUTES PASSABLE. Complications could be numerous given the sheer volume of snow. (More than 30 inches of snow fell in some parts of Annapolis this weekend.) Also, preliminary forecasts are calling for 5 or more inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday.

City residents with questions about snow removal can call the
DPW Operations line (410-263-7967) during the day. After hours, Public Works emergencies can be reported on the City’s 24-hour emergency hotline at 410-224-2140

Tips to Prevent Thefts from Vehicle – There has recently been an increase in the numbers of thefts from vehicles, especially in the downtown area. In most cases, the victims left their vehicles unlocked. The Annapolis Police Department is asking for your help in preventing thefts from vehicles by taking some simple steps to protect yourself. Many of these crimes could be avoided by simply locking your car.

Property crimes are often crimes of opportunity and thieves look for unlocked cars.

Always remember to lock your car. Cell phones, CD players, Ipods, GPS units and laptops are criminal magnets, especially when left in an unlocked vehicle. Lock your car, put the windows and top up, and if you must leave valuables in your vehicle, hide them.

APD Training Exercises - Every Wednesday for the next 6 weeks, APD will conduct training exercises at the old Annapolis Recreation Center building at 9 St. Mary’s Street. The exercises are scheduled to start at 11:00 AM. The public should be aware that the exercise may include the sound of simulated gunfire and the presence of police vehicles.

APD is currently collecting donations of school supplies to put in the back packs. Beware of Package Theft - APD is warning residents to beware of crooks preying on packages delivered to doorsteps and porches in the City. Recent weeks have seen an increase in the numbers of residents reporting that packages they were expecting have been stolen from door steps and porches.

Thieves will often follow delivery trucks and grab packages before residents can pick them up. APD suggests that customers request that the recipient sign for the package when it arrives. Drivers will not leave the package without a signature. Most carriers will also allow customers to leave specific instructions for the driver to place the package where it won't be seen from the street. Residents can also let their neighbors know that they are expecting a package and ask them to be on the look out for a delivery.

New 24 Hour Tip Line – The Annapolis Police Department has established a new, 24 hour tip line.

The number 410-280-CLUE (2583) can be used to report crime, gun and drug activity or any suspicious activity directly to the APD. The line contains information in both English and Spanish and callers can leave tips in either language. All callers will remain anonymous. Emergency callers should still use 911.
