First up tonight, the January speaker is Bruce Morgenstern. Morgenstern is the Vice Chair for the City of Annapolis Commission on Aging and is the President of AAACERT, which is the Anne Arundel County and City of Annapolis Emergency Response Team.

Read the winter 2020 program guide and sign up for winter programs! Registering for Programs:
  • New Program Registration and payments must be done in person at the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center (PMRC). You MUST bring a valid ID and proof of residency if you live within City of Annapolis limits.
  • Already Enrolled Participants may pay for program registration and childcare over the phone using a credit card as long as no paperwork is needed to complete the transaction.
  • Online Registration is NOW available!

4th Annual Pass, Pick & Playsports equipment donations accepted started this week!
In its fourth year, Pass, Pick & Play is an effort that provides children from financially-challenged families in the Annapolis area with free sporting goods. Pass, Pick & Play is a community-wide effort across all youth age groups. The sports equipment donation drive started Monday, January 27 and goes through Friday, March 6 *unless otherwise noted below. To drop off gently-used sports equipment, please go to one of the following locations:
• “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center (PMRC)
• The Key School
• Calvary United Methodist Church (*drop-off 2/23-3/22)
• Anne Arundel Medical Center
• Discoveries: The Library at the Mall (*drop-off now through 2/7 and 2/17-3/6)
The distribution event will be held Saturday, March 28 from 10 am to 1 pm at the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center. For more information, please contact LaKeisha Simmons at 410-263-7958 or Kim Elek at 410-703-3433.

Kids Day Infour dates this winter/spring, first one is tomorrow Thursday, January 30!
Kids, ages 4-12, will spend their day off from school playing board games, participating in a variety of sports, enjoying the Ballocity™ indoor playground, creating crafts and more! Led by experienced instructors and all activities are supervised. Bring a bag lunch and drink. Must be pre-registered. Held in the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center Aux Gym from 8 am to 5:30 pm each day.

Sweetheart Dance next Friday, February 7, 6:30-8:30 pm
You are cordially invited to the NEW Sweetheart Dance! Formerly the Daddy Daughter Dance, this year we are inviting everyone! This new annual family-friendly Valentine’s Day celebration is open to all parents/caregivers and their children. Come out for an evening of dancing and delicious treats. A special keepsake photograph will be given to each family included in the registration price. Advanced registration required. Each additional child is $15. Dress attire is semi-formal.

The Annapolis REACH program seeks youth talent and all aged volunteers to help with its production of The Wiz! Help is wanted for young talent – elementary to high school age – for roles in the upcoming The Wiz musical, as well as volunteers of all ages to help with set design, construction, costumes and general stagehand needs. The performance will be held this spring in Annapolis (date and location still to be finalized.) Scholarship Program  for all City Residents (youth and adults)
The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) maintains a Scholarship Fund for youth and adults who are City of Annapolis residents who do not have the financial means to participate in fee-based ARPD recreational programs, memberships and pool passes as long as applicable and approved. (Scholarship funds cannot be used for facility rentals, before/after school child care and “co-sponsored” programs.) Scholarships are awarded by means of account credit, and may or may not cover the entire cost of the program(s). Fall Prevention Seminar Series begins next Wednesday evening!

Fall Prevention Seminarsfour-part series held at PMRC – first one starts tonight!
Falls are not only painful, debilitating and life altering for the victim, as well as family and friends, they are also costly and unfortunately can be deadly. Don't wait until a fall happens to you or a loved one. Join us for a very important four-part series! These free seminars are for ALL ages and ALL abilities.

Announcing two new fitness classes – classes *start the week of Monday, February 10
  • *NEW* HIIT/Sculpt Combo – A one-hour total body workout that will focus on improving strength, balance, flexibility and burning calories by guiding you through a range of aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Instructor: Stacey Oliff
    • *Held Mondays, 9-9:45 am, PMRC Aux Gym
  • *NEW* Yoga Sculpt – Combines yoga sequencing with free weights, strength training moves and cardio. Expect traditional yoga poses, squats, lunges, lifts, curls and low impact cardio in every class set to and uplifting and fun soundtrack. Instructor:  Liz DeGraffenreid
    • *Held Wednesdays, 9-9:45 am, PMRC Aux Gym
Fitness Class Schedule – The fitness class schedule now indicates which room each class is being held. Next to each class time, you will see an A, Aux, C, Track or 1 to indicate the class location being held in Studio A, Aux Gym, Cycling Studio, Indoor Track or Meeting Room 1, respectively. Studio B is closed for repairs indefinitely. Fitness classes now take place in new locations (Studio A, Aux Gym or Meeting Room 1). With the rain in recent days, the City of Annapolis Public Works Department is determining that the repaired leak is thoroughly fixed before proceeding to the reconstruction of the flooring.

Job Readiness Center – This OIC Job Readiness Center provides free Basic Computer Classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 pm. This is an ongoing course offered every three months. Please call OIC at 43.433.5894 for the next course start date.
Adult Basic Skills Classes are offered at the Stanton Community Center. They are held Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. The fall classes begin this month. For test preparation classes, please call 410.777.1823 or go to Adult Basic Skills Classes. To be eligible for free ABS classes, students must be 16 years or older and officially withdrawn from high school.

Two organizational meetings will be held at the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center in Meeting Room 3. Plant material order forms are due by the second meeting on Wednesday, March 4.
