Maryland #1 in the U.S. for Minority and Women Business Ownership
Paychex collected data to understand the impact minority- and female-owned businesses are having in the U.S. – from cities and states where minority and female entrepreneurs are having the strongest impact, to regions that could use more of their presence. Maryland is ranked #1 for minority business ownership, with Annapolis ranked #10 among the top cities nationwide for minority-owned businesses and #3 in Maryland for women-owned businesses. Annapolis Company Wins U.S. Small Business Administration Award
Maryland district winners of the 2018 National Small Business Week Awards Program were announced by Stephen D. Umberger, District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Baltimore District Office. The winners of the Family Owned Small Business Award are Whitney and Scott Kerridge from Admiral Cleaners in Annapolis. District winners will be honored at the 34th Annual Maryland Small Business Week Awards Luncheon June 7 at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, Md.
Maryland Cybersecurity Tax Credits Available
Cybersecurity Investment Incentive Tax Credit (CIITC) provides a refundable income tax credit to Qualified Maryland Cybersecurity Companies (QMCCs) that secure investment from investors. The purpose of this new program is to incentivize and attract cybersecurity companies to launch in, or move to Maryland; and to attract investment to cybersecurity companies in order to help them grow, create jobs and retain intellectual property in Maryland.

On Friday, June 8 (rain date June 15), from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Annapolis will host a coordinated street music performance with 10 bands playing at 10 different locations on the downtown sidewalks. Bands will primarily feature local Annapolis artists. The bands will collect tips for the Warrior Music Foundation. Local merchants may want to consider later hours that evening in order to benefit from the downtown activity.
4th Public Meeting for Forest Drive & Eastport Sector Study
The 4th public meeting for the Forest Drive and Eastport Sector Study will be held in the City Council Chambers of City Hall on Wednesday, June 20th from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. The focus will be on the 2nd draft plan that the planning team has been working diligently on to revise and incorporate the input received from the last meeting. The 2nd draft plan will be posted on the Sector Study webpage a couple weeks before the public meeting, in early June, to allow you to prepare. In the mean time, feel free to acquaint yourself with the 1st draft and answer these accompanying questions if you have not already done so.
