Sustainable Communities Renewal Application - Draft for Review

The City of Annapolis is currently in the process of completing its Sustainable Communities Plan five-year update as required by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The application is currently in draft form and is due on December 18th. Comments and suggestions by the public are welcome to aid in this effort.

Please join Mayor Buckley at the City Hall Open House December 6, 2018 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Come enjoy holiday music and refreshments before shopping during Midnight Madness. 

Midnight Madness in Annapolis 

Downtown Annapolis Partnership proudly presents Midnight Madness—a Historic Downtown Annapolis holiday tradition on three Thursdays, December 6 and 13 from 6:00 pm until midnight and December 20 from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm. Residents and visitors are invited to stroll along Main Street, West Street, Maryland Avenue, State Circle and Dock Street from 6PM until Midnight to support our local businesses. 

Downtown Annapolis Holiday Parking Information 

Enjoy free parking for 3 hours at all on street meter locations. Free parking garage vouchers are available when you shop or dine at businesses participating in park and shop program. Free parking for evenings and all day on weekends is available to everyone at the Calvert Street Parking Garage. $2 parking after 4pm is available to everyone at the Whitmore Parking Garage. During Midnight Madness (Dec 6, 13 & 20) you can purchase prepaid $5 all day garage parking for Gotts Court and Knighton parking garages.

Holiday Market in West Annapolis 

Friday, December 14th 4:00 pm-10:00 pm. Saturday and Sunday, December 15th and 16th 12:00 pm-8:00 pm. Flamant owner Frederik de Pue will a host European-style Holiday Market in his parking lot on Annapolis Street in West Annapolis. The Holiday Market will feature hand-built huts lit with holiday glow. More than thirty food and gift vendors from Annapolis, Anne Arundel County and Washington, DC will sell their wares. 

Budweiser Clydesdales Coming To West Annapolis

The Budweiser Clydesdales, one of the great American icons, will attend “A Miracle on Annapolis Street” on Sunday, December 30th 11AM-3PM as part of the festivities leading up to this year’s Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. Come out to Annapolis Street to meet the Clydesdales and support the West Annapolis business community.

Annual City of Annapolis New Year 2019 Celebration

On Monday, December 31st, children's activities and entertainment will be at the Weems Whelan Fields (behind Maryland Hall) from 3pm-5pm with fireworks to follow. From 8pm-midnight, there will be FREE live entertainment with dancing for all ages in the tent at Susan Campbell Park as in years past with fireworks at Midnight at the City Dock. Free Entrepreneur Training for Veterans

Project Opportunity is a free entrepreneurship training program designed solely for veterans. It is holding a Using Social Media to Grow Your Business Lunch and Learn will on December 3, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Anne Arundel County Career Center located at 613 Global Way, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090. Veterans, active duty military, or reserve personnel that are the owner (at least 51%) of their business may register. Offers $25 Million for Social Good AI Ideas is seeking projects across a range of social impact domains and levels of technical expertise, from organizations that are experienced in AI to those with an idea for how they could be putting data to better use. Grants may range from $500,000 to $2 million but will be sized based on project needs. Applications will be accepted until January 22. 

Nominations Sought for Local Business Excellence Award

The Comptroller of Maryland is accepting nominations for a new award recognizing businesses that celebrate the guiding values of independence, innovation and investment that define Maryland's local business community. The "Cornerstone Award for Local Business Excellence" celebrates businesses that strengthen Maryland’s economy, generate jobs and tax revenue, develop new ideas that more effectively deliver services and products within the marketplace and are a leader in their local community. Nominations will be accepted through December 31. 

Startups Funded at FounderTrac Demo Day in Annapolis

On November 6 in Annapolis, Leon Scientific was named FounderTrac's business pitch competition winner and won $3K, funded by LAUNCH! Annapolis, MCVC Partners and MTC. In addition, Live Chair received a $175K investment. More details.

Auditing Services - Performance Audit of Internal Controls

The Central Purchasing Office of the City of Annapolis is accepting sealed Proposals for auditing services until 2:00 p.m. local time, Thursday, December 27, 2018. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, conduct a performance audit of internal controls at the City’s Department of Recreation and Parks.

Comprehensive Plan Update - On-Call Consultant Services

The Central Purchasing Office of the City of Annapolis is accepting Statements of Qualification (SOQ) for comprehensive plan update consulting services until 2:00 p.m., local time, Thursday, January 3, 2019. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, services for land use planning and design; design and graphic support; data and demographic analysis; GIS support; engineering assessment and infrastructure management analysis and Public health policy expertise to assist City staff in the production of a comprehensive plan, per the Maryland Land Use Article regulations.

Anne Arundel Community College's Entrepreneurial Studies Institute

The Entrepreneurial Studies Institute (ESI) at Anne Arundel County offers the courses, programs, professors, mentors and resources aspiring business owners need to launch and grow a business. The curriculum is designed to help develop a comprehensive understanding of entrepreneurship while providing the tools to identify business opportunities, join entrepreneurial ventures or work for an established organization. Spring semester registration is open now.

Any credit or noncredit AACC student, regardless of their field of study can use the Hatchery, apply for scholarships and participate in the competitions. Hundreds of students have benefited from the Hatchery’s fully equipped business library, private and work group spaces, conference room and computers loaded with software applications helpful to those starting new ventures.
