May is National Small Business Month

According to the Small Business Administration, "more than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year." Small Businesses are essential to the economy and are a major contributor to job growth. Give your small business the Essential Tools of success with these upcoming workshops.

City of Annapolis Comprehensive Plan Kickoff

The City of Annapolis is getting started on its update to the Comprehensive Plan--a Comprehensive Plan is a broad statement about the community, looking approximately 20 years ahead.  The plan includes goals and strategies to achieve the goals, with specific performance measures and targets that will help determine if these goals are being met. We will be looking at how we can ensure healthy communities, healthy economies, and healthy environments. The Comprehensive Plan Kickoff will take place May 7, 7:00-9:00 pm, Pip Moyer Recreation Center, 273 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis.

City Dock Community Meeting at "Pip" Moyer

On Monday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m., the City Dock Action Group will host a community-wide outreach meeting at “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center in Annapolis. The meeting will be a chance for the public to offer input on the Action Group's plans to implement the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) City Dock Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) report. The Action Group and Working Teams will deliver an implementation strategy in the fall with their recommendations for action items.

Join the Anne Arundel VIP Tour

Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation’s 2019 VIP Tour is a showcase of new commercial real estate projects in the county. The bus tour will provide a valuable opportunity for developers and commercial real estate brokers to highlight their projects to members of the real estate and business community and investors. The event starts at 1750 Forest Drive, a redevelopment project by Manekin that offers a state of the art workspace conducive to creative and innovative companies. Breakfast starts at 8:00 am and tour will begin promptly at 9:30 am.

Applications Open for Annapolis FounderTrac Fall Cohort

FounderTrac, the Maryland-based startup accelerator that operates out of Annapolis is opening applications for its Fall 2019 Cohort. The accelerator helps the region's top startups raise capital, learn from a proven curriculum and utilize one-on-one mentoring from exited entrepreneurs and successful c-level executives to quickly scale their companies. Applications close on June 11.

Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce Economic Outlook Lunch 

The Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce is pleased to have Anirban Basu as the keynote speaker for the Economic Outlook Lunch.  Anirban is one of the most informative and entertaining economists in the United States and he will highlight the strengths and weaknesses in the national and local economy. June 11, 11:30 am-1:30 pm, Admiral Lawrence Banquet Room, Navy-Marine Corp Memorial Stadium.

Maryland Global Export Consulting Program

Are you looking to expand your business globally, solve an international business challenge, or get a consultant’s perspective? Here’s your chance to consult with a Smith School MBA or undergraduate student team. As the first academic partner of the Maryland Partners in International Trade (MAPIT) program, the University of Maryland’s Center for Global Business works in partnership with the Maryland Department of Commerce, Office of International Investment and Trade. CDBG Five Year Consolidated Plan

The Central Purchasing Office of the City of Annapolis is accepting sealed Proposals for consulting services to develop a five year consolidated plan for CDBG grants until 2:00 PM, local time, Wednesday, May 15, 2019. The scope of services includes, but is not limited to, the capability to develop a five-year CONPLAN that will establish goals and strategies for housing and community development in the City for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021- 2025 (Federal Fiscal Year 2020-2024) and a First Year Action Plan for fiscal year 2021, as required by HUD.

Construction Services Dorsey Avenue Drainage Improvements

The Central Purchasing Office of the City of Annapolis is accepting sealed bids for construction services until 2:00 p.m., local time, Tuesday, June 4, 2019. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, installation of storm water pavers system, new water lines, upgraded water meters, full rebuild of Dorsey Avenue road, new curbs, and related incidental site work on Dorsey Avenue from Kirby Lane to the end of Dorsey Avenue.

P.O.R.T. eProcurement system for Anne Arundel County

The Procurement Operations Resource Technology system – or PORT – is a secure, web-based eProcurement system for Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The system will help to streamline procurement processes as well as offer many new features and expanded services, including:
  • Business opportunities posted to a consolidated bid board where you can view and respond
  • Automatic email notification of business opportunities
  • Ability to electronically submit bids or proposals
  • Enhanced self-service vendor registration in a "one-stop shop”
  • Ability to upload documents such as W9, SDAT, COI, etc.
  • Much more!
